UPDATE 7th FEB –

DEADLINE FOR OBJECTIONS TO NCC IS TOMORROW!

Following a successful Read In event on Saturday the closure of NCC consultation is tomorrow. Visit the NCC Consultation pages to give your views.

Update – at the recent public meeting at St James Community Centre the County Councillor in charge of Customers and Communities, Andre Gonzalez De Savage, lasted just 30 minutes into a 90 minute meeting before leaving. County Council Officers stayed and took notes of all of the comments and points raised by residents and users of the library from young to old. Curiously, your local County Councillor was again very quiet!

The Tory County Council say St James library is underused and must close.

Failure to control the finances at the County Council has lead to proposals to close our library, just to save £25200 a year in total savings proposed of £68 million.

I am helping to fight to keep the library open for the many St James residents that use it on a regular or irregular basis. Our library isn’t just for books, with services such as Rhyme Time and Stay and Play helping younger children become library users of the future.

Closing the Library is short sighted and ill thought out. Your Focus team is calling on all local resident to play their part. This really is a case of ‘use it or lose it’!

The Conservative County Councillor for St James is silent on the proposal – he had nothing to say at the recent St James Residents Association meeting, where residents discussed their horror at the proposed closure, or at the county council cabinet meeting when it was announced. Why isn’t he standing up for St James residents?
